The populated center of Chacan is made up of 6 sectors, and is one of the larger towns of the Anta province in the Cusco Region, 40 minutes from the city of Cusco. Historically it is an agricultural area with extensive farms. All of the families that we work with have guinea pig stables, dairy cows, or cattle. In Huaypo Lake you can fish for pejerrey and on the banks of the lake there is a beautiful recreation area. Chacán also has Incan relics, such as the “Ñusta Hispana”, which the community members happily display on a short hike.

If you would like to visit this community, we can organize your volunteering trip or a tour to discover:

–  Artisinal fishing

 Traditional Andean medicine

In the area, from 2010 to 2013, the CBC developed and executed the project “Strengthening Local Governments.” As a result of the project, the first female mayor of Chacán emerged, who gave a boost to tourism through the association “Ñusta Encantada”. In conjunction with the WARA Civil Association, the CBC supported “Ñusta Encantada” from 2013 to 2016. With funds from the German organization “Brot für die Welt” we launched a new cycle of counseling in Rural Community Tourism in Chacán and other communities in 2017.
